Experience Tupig-making in San Fabian Tupig-making is one of the oldest culinary traditions in Pangasinan. Tupig has been traditionally served during special occasions such as fiestas and festivals. However, the popularity of the Tupig as a “pasalubong” and snacks increased during the 1950s to 1960s and was associated to the emergence of bus transportation services in the province. In the Fourth District, the municipality of San Fabian is home to some of the more popular tupig-makers and vendors; one of which is Ms. Marivic Abrio who owns the Tupigan ni Marivic stall in Brgy. Tocok, along the Pangasinan – La Union highway. The Tupigan has been operating as a small business since 2015. Ms. Marivic, the owner and primary tupig-maker, learned the culinary practice from her sister-in-law. Through the collective hardwork of their family, their tupig became popular and has been exported outside the country such as the U.S.A. On the average, the Tupigan produces around three hundred (300) to four hundred (400) pieces of tupig per day. Traditionally, the tupigs were being wrapped with used or old newspapers. But in order to integrate a more export quality and more appealing product packaging, Cong. Toff De Venecia and the DOST helped the tupig-makers, including Ms. Marivic, upscale their tupigs through the provision for boxes. As a potential tourism activity, the Tupigan ni Marivic also offers the tupig-making experience where visitors and other interested guests get a chance to learn and eventually make their own tupig.
